“Wood is mankind’s oldest construction material. In the course of recent climate policies and the resource turnaround over the last 10 to 20 years, we have seen a true renaissance of this amazing, regionally available and climate-neutral construction material.”
Richard Stralz, CEO Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG

Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG has invested 175 million Euros at the existing sawmill location in Leoben to develop a leading-edge cross-laminated timber plant, a high-performance re-sorting and planing mill as well as a fully automated high bay storage facility. This increases the production capacities of Mayr-Melnhof Holz in the cross-laminated timber segment from currently 80,000 m³/year (current production at the location in Gaishorn) to 200,000 m³/year during full-capacity operation.

Two years after ground-breaking and three years after the first preparatory work started at the construction site,

the high-tech cross-laminated timber plant of Mayr-Melnhof will now be inaugurated in Leoben. The official opening ceremony will take place on 23 and 24 June 2023.

It even includes a world premiere: The PEFC project certification not only covers the production halls that are made of wood but also the up to 140,000 m³ of cross-laminated timber produced on site per year. This means that the timber originates from verifiably sustainably managed forests.
